Are You Kidding Me?!

This is what I woke up to this morning!  That stupid weather man said rain yesterday, turning to snow last night, then back to rain by this morning!  Well, we got plenty of wind and rain yesterday, and there were a few tiny flurries when I went to bed.  WITN-TV here in Greenville said we would get a trace to one inch.  We got about three inches!  Everything is covered in white!  (This pic is from the last snow, but it pretty much looks the same).  I thought I'd wake up to a few slushy spots, as the rain would have melted most of it, but no way!  Roads to work weren't too bad as temps are hovering above freezing and rising.  Slush in most places.  But I am done with the snow!  We are expecting temps to be up to 66F by Sunday.  That's what I'm talking about.  PLEASE!  I'm begging now!

I didn't eat dinner last night.  It wasn't because of what Mike cooked.  I wasn't surprised when he told me.  He's been talking about it for a week now.  I had just gotten quite nauseous.  I felt like vomiting...but I didn't.  Mike killed and cleaned those four RI Red/Buff mixed roosters.  They were only doing some minor sparring (no blood) and never messed with Little Chicken, who is twice their size.  They were only six months old.  They were, however, tormenting the hens with their raging hormones.  And without any eggs, fertile or unfertile, they were just using up valuable food.  So they got cleaned and put on the grill last night for dinner.  I will have to try them for leftovers this evening.  I've never eaten any of my own chickens.  So I'll see how they taste.  I still have a white silkie rooster that needs a new home.  Maybe I'll put him in the Bragain Trader to see if I can find a good home for him.  I actually have two white silkie roosters to go, but I haven't decided on one yet.  He's with a mixed bantam hen.  I'm trying to get her to sit on eggs.  She's got 8 or 9 now, so we will see.

I still haven't figured out the giveaway yet.  Not feeling well last night, I was just laying on the couch all evening.  But I promise that it's coming this week.

Dear Randy and Mike, Well, who said keeping chickens is all a bed of roses? Hard as it may be, I think that Mike did the right thing here and I am sure that the chicken would taste delicious- far better than anything bought from a shop!

I cannot believe that you are still having snow. How dreadfully miserable. Keep warm!

Hello, I no longer will have Rhode Island Reds because I found in all the breeds I have had that they are terrorist to the other chickens. I had six of them that also went to the freezer. It is said that they must sit in the fridge at least 24 hours after butchering. I made Rooster & Dumplings and Rooster Cacciotore....LOL....

Are those your kids (babygoats) that you are holding in the pics on the sidebar?

wait a minute, I'm laughing, not that you are sick but because you have SNOW. Something has been falling out of the sky here for a year. If you're looking for a vacation spot with some sunshine, Boone ain't the place.

For your giveaway, how 'bout a chocolate egg?

Today at the office, I brought in a bowl of fresh eggs so folks can take home a few.

I am feeling better today. Thanks everyone.

Barbara-No, we don't have any goats. I wouldn't mind a few, but we don't have the room right now. They were from a petting zoo at a drive thru safari we went to in Texas

Amy-I'm with you. I've had my snow for the year. Enough already.

Joanna-I know all about your snow, and I am in sympathy. It's far worse. But someone else's worse doesn't make my bad good. Hope that makes sense.

I didn't mind the rooster thing. I'm willing to eat them. I just won't be the one to kill them or be there when the deed is done! LOL

I would not have been able to eat them. I'm such a wimp. No . . no, don't try to make me feel better. I am. I can't even eat my own chicken's EGGS yet. I hang my head in shame. I need a hypnotist or something, because I really, really need to get over this. Soon.

Feel better.

Hey!

Ya'll got more snow than we got! I'm glad you got that award! We had a two hour delay that seemed to only be advertised on the website. Only after Tony tried to drop the oldest off at school and found no one there, did we realize we had missed the memo! We have turned into such weather weenies!

Holey Moley Randy,

We have not killed one of ours yet either. However, since we have decided to raise more of our own food; this summer we will cull the cockrels from our yard hatch. Its a weird case of kismet I tell ya!

You posting this and I just bought "Basic Butchering of Livestock & Game," off eBay. Mirrored Relationships I swear.....

Hope you feel better soon.

Here, here, bring on that warm weather!

We've found we love the taste of ours. It helps if you wait and butcher them when they get really annoying. Somehow they taste better then. :)

I sure hope you're feeling MUCH better and that you get that 65 degree weather! I'd be happy with 40s and 50s!

Take care of yourself!

Sorry to see you're still posting snow pics :-(
I'm glad you're feeling better today - what you both had to do is what I call the ugly side of it, but, it's all part of it too. The day will come when I'll have to deal with it too and I'm not really looking forward to it!
Hope the rest of your week and weekend gets warmer and sunnier!

Sorry you're still getting snow... Hopefully it will clear up for you soon. The weather down here is always changing, just can't seem to make up it's mind what it wants to do, no snow just a lot of rain. It's been raining so much our chickens not sure if they should be chickens or ducks. LOL. I'm with you on ready for the spring. Good luck on your getting someone to take you silkie. If I didn't live so far away I would. :O) Have a great day!!!

Me and my partner have talked about getting chickens one day. We can't at our present flat though.

However, there's absolutely no way I'd be able to kill any of them though - regardless of the situation - and I definitely wouldn't be able to eat any of them.

Couldn't you have given them away to somebody else to look after?
