Not Much To Say

I have only been blogging for about six months now, but I am considering a break from blogland.  Lately, I have found myself straining my brain to find something to post about.  I can only say so much about my chickens before my blog becomes completely boring.  And to add to my frustration, I am missing my chickens.  Sunrise this morning was at 7:12 a.m.  I was pulling out of the driveway around 7:25 a.m.  On my drive home in the evenings I have to drive with my headlights on because it is already dark.  So naturally, I am spending zero time with my birds.  Not too long ago Mike got a pair of Buff Orphingtons.  Pretty birds, and she was already laying.  He also got me some more pigeons.  I was down to three, but  one did not come back.  He brought me four, so I now have six total pigeons.  They are pretty birds, but I don't have any new pics.  It's hard to get pics when it's dark the entire time I'm home.  I love the Christmas holiday, but I hate winter.  And the cold weather has settled in for a couple of weeks.  Not cold enough for snow, but cold enough that I will now get shocked everytime I touch something metal. >:(  I HAVE to say that I was excited when I got home yesterday to find a box in the middle of the living room with a UPS label on it.  It was the nest box I won from Pam over at Life on a Southern Farm.  It was wonderful craftsmanship.  I'm not sure who will be the lucky hen yet.  Probably one of the Orphingtons.  Either my black one or buff one.

I guess I will leave it up to you guys.  Should I stay or should I go?  If I quit the blog for a while I will still stick around to read you guys.

Chickens are never boring! I read your blog to read about your chickens! Stay! Write about chickens! Please!

P.S. It's spelled Orpington, not Orphington.

I just found you, you can't leave now!! My dream is to have chickens someday and so I live vicariously (sp?) through people like you until I can! You may not think you're interesting but I do! My .02 cents, or whatever my opinion is worth today! :-)

Oh, no, no, no! Please don't stop blogging. However, I've felt the same way. There are so many interesting blogs out there; it just amazes me but sometimes (and most of the time) I feel like I have nothing anyone wants to hear about. I was thinking earlier, that all my pictures look just alike. And I understand about the winter doldrums and not seeing the animals. I feel guilty for not spending more time with them..that's crazy!

Berte, you're not very convincing! LOL. I guess I'm not going anywhere. I'll see if I can't get some pics up soon, then. Got Christmas shopping to do this weekend, and it's supposed to be nasty here. Rain/snow mix and a high of 40 or so. :(

NO! DON'T QUIT! I JUST GOT HERE!

Thanks for the comment you left on my blog concerning increasing standards for customer service. I appreciate good service more than I do a low price these days . . . and that's saying something.

Please head back to my blog because I just found the nicest little shop in my area is on the brink of closing . . . need any Christmas stuff? Think. Hard.

And -- as to not having anything to write about -- here's something. Tell me why my new chickens -- chicks this past spring are STILL not laying. Now, we didn't expect much from the "pretty girl" (Seabrite, true bantam), but nothing?? That's one matter, but how 'bout the supposed "Easter egger?" And the cochin?? I know she's not known for laying, but nothing? Only the star is laying and laying every single day, bless her little egg-shaped heart.

And I have pigeons, too. Did you see them in my blog? I posted pics a couple of days ago. We rescued them from a shelter . . . one is a white fantail fancy-boy, the other is a big duck/chicken looking kind who I just love. Any idea what kind she is? Love her best of all my birdies, big small, inside and out . . . oh, except for the mourning dove who lives inside with us, but I'll have to save that story for when I know you better!

Gotta go for now, but I'm coming back to read more of your blog . . . I think I will like it here. :)

Having just become a follower of this site I would not be happy. I think all of us who have outside activities are slow now. I post about once to twice a week.
I joined this blog for numerous reasons that I thought fascinating. Is this a budding business??? Eggs, meat, manure??????
It is usually the personality of the blogger that wants people wanting more. I use mine almost as a diary, only centered around my rose collection.
In reading your blog, you have had a very interesting life and experiences.(that leads up to your passion for chickens)

Randy, we all get the "i-don't-know-what-to-write" phase. when i do, i just take sometime off and come back when i have something to share. don't be pressured trying to come up with a post. but don't ever cut the connection, it's all that matters...

Don't quit! Write when you feel like it. There's no "minimum requirement". I like what Amri said: "chickens are never boring"!

I feel the same way sometimes. I especially find it difficult to post when my depression kicks up. But blogging friends are a great bunch so hang in there and keep the connections...

Just take a break! We all get into brain overload. Enjoy Christmas, relax and spend time with the chickens and the family. Wait for the urge to strike...then write!

THE PEOPLE WHO COME TO YOUR BLOG COME HERE BECAUSE YOU ARE INTERESTING AND WE ENJOY HEARING ABOUT YOUR CHICKENS. NOW I DON'T KNOW ABOUT GUYS EXCEPT MY HUSBAND AND A FEW OTHERS BUT I WOULD NAME ALL MY CHICKENS AND IT WOULD BE BASED ON THEIR ATTITUDE....LIKE WE HAVE 4 FERAL CATS WE FEED.....ONE IS RUNT BECAUSE HE IS THE SMALLEST, 1 IS BAD EYES BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE HIS EYES ARE HALF CLOSED, 1 IS CALLED DADDY'S BABY BECAUSE HE TRUSTS MY HUSBAND AND THE OTHER IS BROWN NOSE. I THINK IT WOULD BE A BLAST TO HAVE A CHICKEN COOP BUT I AM SURE IT IS A LOT OF WORK.
POST A PICTURE AND WRITE THE QUOTE OF THE DAY OR A THOUGHT YOU HAVE......IT WILL BE EXCITING TO SEE WHICH HEN GETS THE NEW THRONE/NESTING BOX AND WHY.
I AGREE, I DO NOT LIKE COLD WEATHER OR THE TIME CHANGE....DARK WHEN YOU GET UP/ DARK WHEN YOU GET HOME....TALK ABOUT SOMETHING INTERESTING THAT HAPPENED DURING THE DAY....YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS...YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE CHRISTMAS GIFT....WHAT WAS YOUR TRADITION FOR CHRISTMAS...LIKE WE OPENED 1 PRESENT AND OUR STOCKING ON CHRISTMAS EVE....THEN CHRISTMAS MORNING OF COURSE SANTA CLAUS HAD COME...WE OPENED ALL OUR PRESENTS THEN WE DRESSED UP AND WENT TO MY PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS FOR CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST AND MY MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS FOR CHRISTMAS LUNCH AND THEN HOME BY 5PM TO PLAY WITH OUR TOYS AND TAKE OUR DRESS CLOTHES AND SHOES OFF AND PUT NEATLY AWAY.
I CAN TALK A BLUE STREAK........I HAVE ALL KINDS OF FISHING AND CAMPING STORIES.......
BUT IT IS YOUR BLOG AND YOU BE TRUE TO YOURSELF AND NOT BE SOMEONE YOU THINK THE BLOG WORLD WANTS YOU TO BE......WE LIKE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE AND I WAS ONLY MAKING SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT YOU MIGHT TALK ABOUT....
I RECEIVED THE MOST POSTS WHEN I POSTED A PICTURE OF MY RED AND WHITE POLK-A-DOT BOWL FULL OF FARM EGGS...WHITE AND BROWN
THE TITLE WAS...HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS
JUST THAT SIMPLE AND PEOPLE RESPONDED WITH POACHED, OVER EASY, OMLETTE, FRIED, SCRAMBLED....I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT
I HAVE BEEN IN A RUT MYSELF BUT IT IS DEPRESSION OVER AMY GOING TO HEAVEN...I AM IN NO WAY SAD SHE IS IN HEAVEN....I JUST MISS HER AND CRY ALOT....IT WILL BE BETTER WHEN CHRISTMAS IS OVER.
OH YOU COULD ALSO TALK ABOUT A FAVORITE BOOK NOW OR WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD.....A PERSON THAT INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE AND WHY
IF YOU NEED ANY MORE IDEAS JUST ASK.....
YOU'LL BE LIKE MY SON....WHEN HE TOLD ME HE WAS BORED, I TOLD HIM TO GET THE ENCYOPLEDIA AND WRITE ME A REPORT...THE FIRST REPORT WAS FUN BUT BY THE 4TH REPORT, HE NEVER SAID HE WAS BORED AGAIN.....HAHA...HE STILL LAUGHS ABOUT IT...I LOVE THE HANDSOME DEVIL.

I've used that Should I stay or should I go ? song so many times to make decisions... now there's an idea for a post !!! borrow ideas to elabourate on - people don't mind just mention their blog if you do. xx

I think they all just about said everything that could be said!! Don't disappear, I'd like to read more about your chickens, if only to compare them with mine! why not take a break and start afresh after New Year like me. Then maybe you can store up some interesting stuff ready for your first post of 2010.

Best wishes, and hope you guys have a fun festive time. Abby x

I understand about needing a break from blogging, too. There are days when I just don't have the time for it, but I always enjoy visiting and learning from other blogs.
Thank you for the nice compliment on the nest box and my husband and I are so happy you like it.
About 3 or 4 hens will use the same nest box to lay eggs in.

Have a Merry Christmas.
