Dude?!

Maybe this seems a bit wierd.  Maybe I'm just plain wrong.  I thought we were living in a different day and age.  I guess maybe guys just don't blog about chickens or the such.  I have nothing against girls.  I like girls.  I think they are wonderful!!  There are plenty of guys that blog.  And I know plenty of guys that keep chickens.  But I suppose guys just don't blog about chickens.  I was looking at my blog with my large number of six followers, and I thought to myself..."Gee, I'd like to have more followers than that!"  So I started checking out other blogs (cause you gotta follow if ya wanna be followed).  I noticed that there is a minimal amount of male bloggers that are blogging about chickens.  I suppose I don't have to be followed by  chicken bloggers, though.  I haven't thought this through.  I'm typing as I'm thinking.  But if you are a guy that has chickens (they are really amazing creatures) wouldn't you want to blog about them?  I did find Duncan_2009 who has started a new blog.  He hasn't gotten his chickens yet, but when he does, he'll have lots of fun, I'm sure.  Maybe I'm the wierd one here.  Who's to say what's really normal?  I have five buff and Rhode Island Red mixed chicks.  I put them in a pen by themselves and the kept getting out.  So I just let them run around.  But I had been touching them and hand feeding them for the first few weeks.  Now they run up to me everyday just to eat out of my hand.  It's the coolest thing.  During the day the hide out in the field behind the house.  (I'm afraid a snake might get them, actually)  But I go out into the field and listen for peeps.  Then I make kissing noises, and they come running.  That's why I blog about chickens.  Aren't there any guys out there ( I haven't forgotten about you John) that enjoys blogging about chickens?  Again, I am just thinking out in writing, but I was certainly curious.

One More

Had to do one more.  I don't wanna seem like a regular copy cat, but I liked Tracey and Amy's mosaics a lot.  So I did one more...with my fav colour (yes, I spelled it with a U for the Brits)   :)  I miss the Bluebonnets down in Texas.  I lived there for eight years.  When I was eight I told my aunt that I was gonna move to Texas when I grew up.  I did, and I loved it there.  But I missed my family here in North Carolina more.  So I moved back home.  The football (American) helmet is my favorite team, the New York Giants.  I've been a fan since I was four years old when we drove by their stadium.  My grandfather pointed to it, and said that's where they played.  Been a fan ever since.

My Mosaic

I like this mosaic thing. Mostly my chickens here, plus a few flowers I had growing this summer. I gotta get a new camera so you can see how big these little ones have gotten!!

All Gone Wrong

My computer went dead. I mean, I got the blue screen of death!! I couldn't even log on in safe mode. So I had to ship it off the Charlotte for fixin'. Turns out I had a bad memory chip that had to be replaced. That left me without a computer for five days. It was fixed and shipped same day, but you have to give time to get it there and back!! Anyway, it's sorta fixed now. My screen is jumpy like it has had too much coffee, but everything else works. I will call Babs tomorrow to see what I can do to get that fixed.

I missed the auction this weekend. I thought it was next weekend!! Not that serious, cause I really wasn't prepared anyway. However, the next auction is September 12th and 13th! I have drill that weekend, so I won't be able to make it then, either. That really stinks. That means that I have to wait till September 26th before I can go to auction. I might have to put a few hens in the freezer. I just don't wanna be the one to do it. I truly don't mind the chickens being readied for a good meal, but I don't wanna see it happen. I've been feeding them morning and evening and talking to them. I go out and sit and watch them in the evenings! They almost like pets! Kill them if you must, just keep it from my eyesite!!

My grass is entirely too high. I started to mow my grass this weekend. I got about half the back yard done when the mower just died!! I'm not sure what could the matter be, but I will have to get it checked out soon. My sister popped in for a short visit, and my five year old nephew politely reminded me that I need to mow my front yard. What a growing list of things I need to do, eh?!

China has started laying again. I still have seven of her babies left. Les is supposed to get them, but I'm not sure when. Then are about eight weeks old now, me thinks. But she chases them away quite frequently, and now has four eggs in her nest. If I can get rid of the bantams fairly quickly, I don't mind her brooding again. But otherwise is just adding fuel to the fire.

I now have some silkies!! And my white hen has started laying. I am sure I can do well with her chicks! Of course, the rooster is blue. I have a white rooster, but it's her daddy. But I was told that the bitties will be either blue or white. I am learning something new all the time with these magnificent creatures.

I suppose I have blogged on quite enough. I'll give your eyes a rest for now. I'm working on a camera to get pics up. But in the mean time, thanks for noticin' me. :)

Too Many Chickens

I got more chickens yesterday. I got seven more to be exact. I got a white Silkie rooster and a splash Silkie pullet. I also got five black/blue Orphington roosters. I have got to get rid of some of my chickens!! I don't really want to, but I really have too many now. In fact, I just did a quick count, and unless I'm missing a chicken or two, I now have 63 roosters, chickens, and chicks. I am wanting to get into breeding pure breeds. My silkies are pure breeds, and the black and blue Orphingtons are pure breeds. The white leghorns are pure breeds, but they came from a Perdue farm. They were fed hormones nd stuff to help them grow big, fast. I think the black sex links are pure, but I can't verify that. So I will HAVE to take some to auction in a couple of weeks. Do you know how much food that is? It's A LOT!! I have to get up earlier just to fed them in the morning before work. I was a few minutes late this morning. But they are so fun. My little buff and red chicks are about 3 weeks old and keep getting out. They are running everywhere! The bantam chicks are about 5 weeks old and run everywhere, too. They are the same size, too. They are so adorable. I have a guy that's coming to get the bantam chicks soon.
I gotta get a new camera so I can get pics back up. Y'all have a good day!!

Worked to Death!!

I'm back into the swing of things at work, now. But I'm not lovin' the "swing of things". I like my job, but with the economy the way it is we don't really have the help we need. And we're not likely going to get it any time soon. So that means, as my boss so neatly put it, "We are just going to have to do more with less." That is simply translated as my work load will multiple, but my pay check will not. It's getting very hard to keep up with everything I have to do. And that gets frustrating. Sometimes I feel like those Sunday comics where the inbox is full to overflowing, and the outbox is empty. My theme song is from the show "Scrubs". "I can't do this all on my own. I'm no superman."

Now that I've vented, gotta mention my chickens. I got out Little Chicken yesterday, and he wanted to stay right by his pen. He was being quite sneaky, though. I threw in some cucumber slices to all my hens, and he stuck his head in through the wire and stole a few slices. I had to laugh. I got a couple of SILKIES!! I got a blue rooster and a white hen. The man I got them from said I can get a splash hen and a white rooster, too, if I want. But I don't have room right now. I've never been to auction which is 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, so I'll prolly got in a couple of weeks, just to see how it all works. Then I will try to sell off some of what I've got. Then I want to get into pure breeds for show!! I've got some buff reds mixed that are only three weeks old. I moved them out of the bitty box yesterday into a divided pen, next to a couple of white reds mixed that are about 2 1/2 months old. This morning when I went to feed the little ones had gotten in with the bigger ones. No one was fighting, but I will have to keep an eye on them. Don't want the babies to get bullied out of food.

Returned and Tagged

My, my, my. Well, I have camera issues, so pictures will have to hold off for a bit. But I will get it straight. My trip to Florida was somewhat enjoyable. It was an eight hour drive, but we were on a charter bus. So it wasn't too bad. We thought we were going down there to train in our military jobs, but that turned out to be different. We got hooked into working for civilians. We were divided into three groups working on three different jobs. The group I was with was taking apart carousels with metal racks on them. They were set up in two rows. Our commander didn't think we could finish the first row in the first week, so we made it a bet. If we did, he had to take our group of 12 or 13 out to dinner. We did, so he paid. We went to this steak and seafood restaraunt on the St. Johns River. He said get whatever we wanted. I had a few screwdrivers, escargot, and pan seared Atlantic Swordfish. The bill totaled 938.00!! (That's over 569.00 British Pounds!) He might think before talking next time.

We also visited Universal Studios. That was fun, but it would not have been if I had paid. The offered free tickets to military. They were $100.00 US dollars or over 60 Birtish pounds. Lines were long. Some rides were over two hour waits to get on them. We went to the beach one day, and that was fun, too. I went and bought a boogey board and did a little body surfing. We had a pool party on our last day, then some of us went shopping. I went along, but I bought nothing. Most of what I was wanting is really out of my price range (Movado watches lol). I have some pics of the trip, but they will have to wait till later :(

I guess I've been tagged so I must share about myself. Umm.....

1) I love peanut butter candies...like Reece's Peanut Butter Cups, peanut butter fudge, etc.

2) I have a job in accounting, but I was horrible at math...I failed two math classes in high school and had to retake them to graduate!! (I hated math, too)

3) Mike and I both enjoy fishing. My parents live on the water, and everytime we go visit he takes his poles and spends hours fishing. I fish there, too, but not as long as he does.

4) I enjoy traveling....my life goal is to visit all 50 US States and all seven continents. I am only lacking two states...Alaska and Hawaii, and only two continents...Australia and Antartica. The only one that may be questionable is Antartica, but I ain't giving up hope!!

5) When it comes to food, I'll try anything once. I've eaten live termites, live crabs, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, crocodile, snails, and even some foods in other countries that I didn't even know what they were.

6) We both enjoy entertaining. We like having friends and/or family over for dinner and drinks, especially if we can cook on the grill!!

I don't know that many other people, yet, so I will only be tagging...John @ Going Gently, Berte @ River Bend, Paula @ Fraker Farm, Becca @ Southern Garden by Becca, and Cal @ Cozy Corner. If you've already been tagged, please disregard. : D

Be Back Soon!!

Wow!! I can see that I've missed a lot of posts!! I am still in Florida, and we have some crazy thunderstorms every single day around 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. I am enjoying myself though. Working hard, but playing hard, too. I visited Universal Studios and went to the beach over the weekend. But all in all I am good. Only got a few minutes for the internet. Need some sleep as I have formation at 5:30 in the morning. See y'all soon!!
